A long ride

South of Broome is more or less devoid of anything interesting. But it will likely change in the next twenty years or so, as now there are lots of new mines and construction sites. As soon as the families of the workers start to live here, there will be more than just mines, gas refineries and road trains around here. I dont think the families want to live in caravan parks as the workers now do...

The road trains seem to grow, or maybe its just my perceptions. In whichever case, this place inspired me to just ride forward, on and on for 850km. Argh.

Those road trains are just enormous. Be carefull with your bike. Trucks brake for nobody and they probably would not even notice is they run you over...

I had a conversation with one of the road train drivers on the other night, he was giving me a detailed lecture on how the gearbox works and why it is better to change gears without using clutch... One of the reasons why the american trucks are more popular here, as their gearbox can take the abuse longer :)

He also mentioned that divers often overload their vehicles up to 91 tons, as the scales can be fooled a bit.

The oversized road trains exist too: Too wide to fit on a single lane... My favorite one was hauling two mining trucks (dumpsters) to somewhere.

The driver also gave me some insights how to hunt kangaroos and what works well against them. Apparently at his home ranch they're flocking like pests, eating everything, so he has to cull the flock down each year.
